Hi, I'm about to build a new deck, the main concern I have is that the narrow space that could restrict a vehicle accessing the back yard. So if the deck is too wide (design 1), I would then have to trim the tree by the garage.

I prefer number 4. Don't get rid of the bush on the corner- it softens an unattractive/harsh line/corner - and looks like a nice shrub.

I like the way 3 mirrors the shape of the steps further back, and the curve softens the straight lines of the house. What will you put on the deck? If a table and chairs, make sure there's plenty of room around them to move when the chairs are pulled out.

I quite like design 3 as well because it would provide enough space for a vehicle to go through the gap and it matches with the patio steps.
I have another dilemma. I would like a low level deck 180mm off the ground, link to a picture design here http://alturl.com/s6o9n However, I have read kwila deck should have at least 450mm clearance from the ground. Does that mean I have to dig down another 270mm of dirt? 39m2 of deck space, that is another 10m3 of dirt to come out!

Personally, I would ditch those steps that are there, and have it up against the house. What are the dimensions, it looks quite small?

Move the tree to the front of the deck - with other plants, it will soften the straight edges overall. Like previous poster, I would recommend having one level from the house.

I would also put a roof over the deck as well, you will get more use out of it.
We have one similar to this, but bigger, and we get a lot of use out of our outdoor area.
I would wrap it around the existing concrete slab. or nuke that and attach to house with decking running parallel to house. and add pergola type framework with some cover.

You guys are too over the top, I have revised the deck plan so that it is 400mm off ground with steps running on the sides. The final question now is can that shrub be moved? It looks like it's been there for years. Link to final design here. http://s21.postimg.org/sly719xdj/Deck_Plan.jpg
