Staining new deck

Hi Guys- just finishing a deck off today and we're looking at staining it tomorrow. Went to Mitre 10 and one of the sales guys recommended leaving the deck for a season before we look at staining it. Would you guys agree with that? Autumn now so will only be looking at doing it in Winter weather permitting. Also any thoughts on th best type of stain? Aquadeck vs the normal stuff etc. We have dogs so it would be a high traffic area

If you leave it to "weather" you will have to clean it as well.

most stains fade out quickly, ive seen on here, that some painters advise the cheapest method is to choose a colour, acrylic paint, hose down your deck and paint while deck is still damp.when deck dries it sucks the paint into the decking.

I stained my four year old deck with Cabots Aquadeck and am really pleased with the result. Cabots seems to have more 'body' or solids than the Wattyl product which is usually cheaper.
Because most decking is not kiln dried, there is possibly a case for letting it dry a bit in situ, but the stain companies put out tech pamphlets with all the relevant info re application etc. Get the brochures and do what they say.
