Deck extension question

If you were building a deck extension partially over an existing concrete slab, is it normal to use a bracket and dyno bolt to attach the pile to the slab rather than cut a hole and dig and concrete the pile?

Stirup under the post & secured to the concrete with a blutip or dynabolt

Ok so it's not something dodgy to cut corners then? Deck height is about 900mm off the ground

How thick is the concrete? Reinforced?

No idea if it is reinforced. Slab is exposed aggregate and is about 4 inches thick

A few posts bolted to the concrete may be ok but you will need some embedded into the ground to stop sideways movement (ie brace pile).
It is a cheap method and we wouldnt be doing it.
We would be cutting the concrete and concreting a new pile in.
