Pile Holes for Deck less than 1 metre to ground

Do the pile holes have to be 450? or can we still dig them a spade width? or bore them at 300mm diameter. thanks

How wide is your spade?

A pile is typically 125mm square, so you'll want at least a 100mm each side of that to be of any use (prevent movement, deck sagging etc), and by the time you've done that you might as well do a little extra and go to 450mm and be up to code!

EDIT: where did you get the 450sq footing size from? If its part of your consented plans, you will fail inspection if it isn't done 'as per plan'. Better to do it once & do it right in my opinion

LOL hold on Sooby, it's a deck LESS then 1m high.

Under 1m high has no regulations involved.
Personally I would do the corners at 400mm/ 450mm & the rest at 300mm

Even if it doesn't need a building consent the Building Code still applies. NZS 3604 specifies footings for ordinary and bracing etc piles. Which type you need depends on dimensions of deck.

This is rubbish advice.
