Cleaning metal Venetian blinds

niknaks, Jan 25, 5:35am
Hi
We have moved into a home with dirty, thick grime metal venetians. Tried cleaning in place but the metal bucklesas u need to rub hard to remove grime.
If we remove and put in bath what can be used to loosen or remove this caked on grime!
Any ideas gratefully received.

It might be worthwhile getting them cleaned by a specialist blind cleaning company. There are several in Christchurch if you google it.I have never used any of them myself so can't reccommend anyone in particular.

We had one by the range that got very grimy, we put it on the lawn and cleaned it with sugar soap and a soft broom, hosed it, shook it and put it back with a towel underneath. But meths worked really well on the range hood so that might work if you don't want to take it down. No Venetian in the new house though!

Or, if you don't want to take them down, sugar soap with one of those 'magic' floor cloths will do the trick. Close the blinds one way, them the other, wiping along them, then wrap the cloth between your fingers and wipe slat after endless slat between finger and thumb. When dry, rub with a soft cloth to remove any streaks. Mine are minis and I can'r wait to be rid of them. They get greasy in the kitchen even when looked after.

A product called Come Clean, from the hardware store. Use it on a damp cloth with a lot of ventilation. I used this on a second hand kitchen we bought from the red zone in Chch best thing since sliced bread.

I have to admit, I have skipped #2, 4 and 6. I do have a good eusxce. We are going room to room in our house as well as these great steps from mrs.january. I unfortunately have a 3 story house plus a basement and has been under renovations so it is just easier to take it one room at a time and and do one full day, one full room ceiling to floor at a time. However, I am realizing sometimes that is way to overwhelming so sometimes we do the major work one day and the minor work another. I love this blog.
