Wallace water pump

I have a Wallace Aquajet 35 water pump, which was in the garage when we bought the house, and is connected up to a rainwater tank which is just used for the garden, car washing etc. Recently it stopped working, and I took off the pressure tank, found there was virtually no air pressure in it, reinflated it to the recommended 18 psi, and it seems to be holding that, so the bladder is presumably ok, and the pump is working again. My question is, how consistent should the water supply be! It sort of surges, e.g quite high pressure from the hose, followed by a drop. Is this normal, or should the pump run continuously while the tap is turnedon!

sounds like the the presure needs adjusting .ie when it cuts back in and when it shuts off they are adjustedby fine screws on the control switch

Thanks. May have a go at adjustment first, with the second option in mind. A bit of surging is neither here nor there when watering the garden, but is a bit of a nuisance when car washing!

There is a small whole (jet) on the pressure switch diaphragm that gets blocked with dirt or lime build up. Make sure it's clear as well.
