Heat pump - can you install yourself?

midgetmum, May 30, 7:46pm
is it possible to install a heat pump yourself, or maybe just install and then get it gassed by installer?

Yes. Not exactly simple though but if you know what you are doing, as with anything.

Watch your insurance policy, just in case its not covered if anything goes wrong

No you can't. Unless you have a few thousand dollars worth of the specialized tools required and an electricians license.

yes can install but then will have to have a electrician to connect and do paper work

And someone to gas it?

And you can be absolutely certain that there will be no warranty. :)

i suppose under the guidance of a "qualified heat pump installer" you could do the "dirty work". drill holes, run the power cable, screw up the brakets etc, but for the purpose of the warranty for a new unit most reputible manufacturers require a person who has had the necessary training in their brand to do the install and commissioning.

You will need a vacum pump to suck the air out of the connecting pipes,
The units come pregassed and unless the length of run is unusally long , no extra gas is needed to top up.

It is not a DIY thing.

You will need a registered electrical inspector to certify home owners wiring.

Totally correct.
