Large Shade Sail install?

mbi15, Jan 25, 9:50pm
I have an 5m x 5m shade sail, it is bigger than my deck (new house). Who would I get to install poles (and then the sail)? These would need to be about 1.5 off the side of the deck (the deck is about 2.5m wide), unless someone can think of a better way to do it, I was wondering about letting the overhand drop down the side creating more shade and just attaching the poles to the deck?. My deck is unusable at the moment as its soooo hot in the afternoon. I'm a single mum and not particularly confident about digging deep holes and concreting them in. Does anyone know how much it would cost to get someone else to put the poles in and attache the sail?

We did this at our last house, the deck was a storey up so the poles were about 7.5 metres long and really heavy. I got a few mates around but you could get a local builder to do it. Make sure the poles are powder coated or at least properly painted and have a few fins welded on where it goes into the concrete. Don't let anyone try to talk you into attaching the sail to the roof or the fascia board . Potential for major damage here.

Yes. take care about how and where it's attached to your house. the tension on the sail, especially when windy, can pull out whatever the sail is attached to.

Cor with the gusty winds tearing up the gully toward my house I could not follow the diy video and instal a sail attached to the fascia boards or deck. Asking for trouble. I'd have to go solid.
