Do I need a plumber or can I have a go at it myself! What do I need to do!

If you don't know what to do, and perhaps haven't got the correct tools required, I'd definately get plumber, or good handyman/woman.Doing so would save insurance claim for the flooding that would eventuate, should you attempt the job.

I did mine no trouble. I had a lovely old wooden cistern but the copper lining had perished and I replaced it with a nasty plastic cistern. It was straight forward and there were no issues.

Samsnan and maclad - thanks. I THOUGHT it looked too easy. Pleased to hear there aren't any hidden traps. I'm pretty handy with a lot of things - just haven't done any major plumbing type work. Simple stuff, yes, but not this! LOL

Just check to make sure the pipes are the same length on both. I found my overflow pipe needed to be longer on the new one and I used a flexiable pipe on the inlet one as the are a bit forgiving if too long.

If it's the same type as what you have then it's not a problem. But if you change too much, the height has an affect too, you may have to raise or lower it.

Am going round to Mum's this morning to measure up and take a few pics of the crappy (pardon the pun) old one. Might be able to find one that's close - here's hoping! :)

Do make sure that the shut off tap on the cistern works properly as you dont want it leaking out while you are trying to install the cistern

Not sure if there is a You Tube vid on what you want, but whenever I want to see how any DIY or car stuff is done, I've found it on there.
