Toilet Cleaner Scam

tygertung, Jun 29, 1:37am
I have started a scam where I make my own toilet cleaner out of bleach, dish liquid, and maybe a little water. I just take the lid off a toilet cleaner bottle and put the mixture in.

It is scamming the toilet cleaner companies out of money. Works just as well as commercial toilet cleaner, maybe better.

Be careful what you mix with bleach though, ammonia will evolve a toxic gas for example.

Perhaps it may be an idea to look up the meaning of the word "scam", as this is the second time, (that I have seen), you have used the word incorrectly.

There is some school of thought online that dishwashing liquid should not be used in a toilet. Maybe research before proceeding?

Agree that you're using the wrong word. Maybe you mean "hack". However, you might be doing the toilet cleaner people out of a little bit of money, but you're probably making the dishwashing liquid people a little bit richer. (Also you could be making your plumber richer if you damage the system.)

People buy special toilet cleaner? Did not know that was on the market.

The toilet and kitchen sink both go into the sewer through the same piping.

It isn't scamming the toilet cleaner people too much I guess as it is the same company who make the dish liquid, but I guess the vinegar people get some money too.

I know it isn't really a scam, just having a wee joke haha.

Good to know. Thanks.

A scam is where you obtain money of goods by not paying/an getting something from others for nothing and without their permission.

So it isn't a scam.
In addition, depending whats in your dish wash liquid, mixing bleach with it can be dangerous. Toxic gases among other things.

I just clean mine with whatever cleaner I have to hand.
I bleach at a later date.

From your article: "The writer explained, “I do a big squeeze about three days a week and the toilet is used all the time.”
I had to laugh at that mental image.

OK, would you say that it is more of a scheme then?

Now with regard to the bleach and mixing it, don't mix it with vinegar. I am using tree hugger type "ecostore" dish liquid and it didn't have any adverse reactions.

O/P - why did you buy a toilet cleaner bottle?
Wee ironic?

tygertung, Jun 29, 7:32pm
My wife bought it probably a few years ago.

Buy the product once, then reuse the bottle; save money.

Pop a couple of denture tablets in your toilet; allow them to sit until they stop fizzing; then, give your toilet a good scrub. The tabs will kill germs and remove hard water stains, just like a store-bought toilet bowl cleaner, but at a fraction of the price, and with no harsh chemical smells.

Jiff on a cloth & hand works best, get it up the bend .& also under the lip of the bowl .

Spray silicone around the inner bowl and nothing seems to settle on the porcelain.

I have never used a 'toilet cleaner', just use Jif sort of stuff. Why would one need special stuff to clean a toilet?
BTW two women in Australia died when they mixed two types of cleaning material for cleaning the toilets, I think it was. Terrible - it was the fumes. Quite a long time ago, i must google it.
