Spray Cleaner Scam

I've been running this scam to scam the spray cleaner company out of money.

What I do is I buy a bottle of spray cleaner and when it runs out, I just refill the bottle with dish liquid, vinegar and water.

Cleans the surfaces just fine and saves a lot of money.

I had a friend who worked as a surgical nurse and he said they used to just clean down the operating theatres with dishliquid, so it must be good enough if it is satisfactory for medical use.

I use this stuff. Costs me about $1.30 per bottle and is really good at cleaning everything.
It costs me $0.10 a load in my washing machine as I use it in there too, don't have to buy any cleaning products now except for dishwash liquid and dishwash powder.

If you buy some expensive cleaner just to get the spray bottle that it comes in then the only person you are scamming out of money is yourself.

kitty179, May 12, 2:08am
Not really - the product is only bought once and the container is reused. Anyone would probably have to buy a spray bottle in any case to use the solution.

mr-treevers, May 12, 2:18am
Yeah, but if all you want is the bottle then you can buy empty ones for next to nothing, or get someone to fish one out of their rubbish bin for you. Re-using a spray bottle hardly qualifies as a "scam".

Annie17111 is on to it. Been using for over 20 years. Looks expensive but when 5ml or 10ml per litre of water is all that is required it works out cheap. Multi-purpose . bathroom, toilet, stove, etc.

kitty179, May 12, 2:29am
Good point, but I'm guessing OP was highlighting that they will only buy the product once. Mind you, if we all did that, the company would be selling a few million of them, I suppose, even if no-one was a repeat buyer!

tygertung, May 12, 2:46am
You don't have to buy expensive spray cleaner, just any. I usually get the 'earth planet" type brand.

apollo11, May 12, 3:26am
Went to Uncle Bills to buy a spray bottle. It was cheaper to buy a bottle of the equivalent size with window cleaner in it than an empty spray bottle. Go figure.

annie17111, May 12, 3:45am
and it leaves things so lovely and clean. And I get 2 free spray bottles every time I buy 1 litre. Also like supporting nz made.

tygertung, May 12, 3:49am
Yeah empty containers tend to be a real rip-off.

kitty179, May 12, 4:00am
Some would prefer not to use chemicals.

kitty179, May 12, 4:14am
Ah yes - true.

tygertung, May 12, 4:17am
Thats why you can buy a tree hugger type brand. That's what we use.

marte, May 12, 5:55am
Buy the empty bottle then. Its the thought that counts.

This is the Household Cleaner I make

½ Litre Water
100ml White Vinegar
20ml Dish Detergent
20ml Eucalyptus or Peppermint Oil
1 Desert Spoon Washing Soda

Mix. Put in 750ml Spray Bottle

tygertung, May 12, 6:06pm
Are you sure it is a good idea to mix the vinegar and washing soda? Just from a chemistry point of view?

And any detergent for your hair is as good as shampoo.so the queens hairdresser said, its the lenghthy rinsing that matters more than the shampoo.

annie17111, May 12, 7:34pm
they last for ages too, longer than the ones I've bought already with spray in them

tygertung, May 12, 7:53pm
You can actually just wash your hair with water, no shampoo required. True story.

https://www.citrusbasedcleaner.co.nz/product/1-litre-citrus-concentrate-with-free-spray-bottle-and-doodle-bug/

If you buy a 1L of concentrate you can get a free bottle.

I still find it cheaper just to make my own though I reckon.

If you use one of those microfibre cloths, it works real good on the bath and shower.

amasser, May 12, 8:12pm
Why do you collect spray bottles?

annie17111, May 12, 9:11pm
I don't collect spray bottles. I buy 1 litre of citrus and it lasts about 5 months, that's for all my cleaning except dishes.
So get 2 spray bottles every time I get my order, so have one for the shower, kitchen, glass and general cleaning.

annie17111, May 12, 9:12pm
we have really hard water and microfibre cloth wouldnt help in the shower.
