Painting a roof - sprayer?

bargainhunter10, Jan 2, 11:23am
Hi there. Wondering about painting a roof with a paint sprayer. I dont have one so would have to hire, buy or borrow? Is it worth it? Would a cheaper model do the trick? I had a look at hirepool and it was about 400 a day to hire one. Any advice on what types of sprayer might work

You will have to worry about paint getting over your neighbour's cars.
I now use a broom with nylon bristles to paint a roof. It is incredibly quick. Use a roller tray for the paint.

if you have never learnt how to use a sprayer then don't do a roof.If there is any wind paint will get onto neighbours cars etc, your windows and walls etc

This is what I do too. Done and dusted in a few hours, only one coat required.

This sort of thing:

I use a wall paper trough for holding paint.

Yes that kind of broom.
I have only ever used Wattyl Solagard which is water based. I don't know if any other paint works.

Last one I did was resenes. I have 4 x 10l of wattyl solagard ready to slap on this roof, noticed that it doesn't look as 'gloopy' as the resene roof paint was.
Any touch ups with red lead etc better done with a cheap paint brush.

you can buy corrugated specific roof paint brooms .

The ones I've seen are stiff bristled- good for scrubbing the roof down first.
