What you can do as a more modern option rather than mucking around with fuse wire, is to get a circuit breaker which plugs in to the exact place that your ceramic fuse plugged into. You just remove the ceramic fuse and plug the circuit breaker into it. Then you don't have to muck around with fuse wire.

I might actually have one in the roof of the garage if you are low on funds. Can post it up using TradeMe couriers for $3. I'll have a look later today.

Thanks but as I mentioned I’m getting an electrician in soon to replace fuse board and some wiring and a PowerPoint out by dryer. Tentatively he said second week in September so have contacted to arrange definite time. Thanks

The various comments on here prove the importance of having a licensed electrical worker (with a fair bit of skin in the game) make decisions about these matters.

I think electricians would say that appliances like this should be plugged directly into the power point. Just saying . . .
