I know you can buy flat ethernet cable. Does anyone know if or where to buy flat electrical cord?

peanuts37, Aug 1, 12:47am
Use to see it a lot, haven't seen it for years.

mumsrule, Aug 1, 1:17am
I am wanting one to go under the bathroom door for my dryer. And maybe a heater of these freezing mornings. I see them on overseas websites but was hoping to be able to get them here.

You really shouldn't run an extension cord through a door, especially into a bathroom. There used to be a rule about it, but it has been dropped as far as I know as it's impossible to tell people what to do (like telling a Karen to wear a mask).

Power points in bathrooms must be RCD protected.
You should get an electrician to correctly install a power point if you need one.

But I was hoping to re warm the bath water with the toaster.

Im sure there are a few trurip extension cords in existance to use. or make your own 🙄

Electricity and water don't go together, your idea not a good one.

I think they make flat extension cords for use in on stage music & video recording studios etc.
Might be expensive though.

No. Get a extraction fan/light thing installed, hey come with heat lamps as well, if you are cold.
Do not run cords like that, certainly not under the door.
There are also electric towel rails, get an electricina to install one if you must have all this warm stuff.

Repeated in Computing, and also advised against it there.

Be careful with this point here, what is deemed safe overseas may not be here for a variety of reasons.

narr. These guys seem to think it's ok lol

You're mad. One day we will read about you in the paper.

mumsrule, Aug 4, 3:15am
Unfortunately the gap under my door is not big enough for the cord. I too am not stupid enough to chuck my dryer/heater in the shower :) And my bathroom is quite big so both well away from any water. I will sort it somehow. Amazing how some people love to jump on others. Good to know I am not the only person who does this.

fast4motion, Aug 4, 3:40am
Do you have an extractor fan in the bathroom? They work best if they can draw in a reasonable amount of air to replace the air they're expelling. This is usually done through the gap under the door. So you could consider planing the bottom of the door to make the gap larger, which would also allow you to fit a cord under it.

mumsrule, Aug 4, 3:51am
Good idea. Makes sense. There is an extractor fan. Looks like a weekend job :) Thanks

Oh not again!

ksam, Aug 4, 5:07am
I don't have to see your bathroom to know extension leads DON'T belong in a bathroom. But keep doing it your way then, clearly advice from electricians and building regulations/laws are of no interest to you.

boby11, Aug 4, 5:20am
You don't have to put electrical things in the water to be electrocuted.Just standing on a wet floor or with bare feet is enough to conduct electricity it you make contact with a live connection like via a wet plug and socket on a connecting cord or power board, moist from steam etc

mumsrule, Aug 4, 5:52am
I am very aware of the dangers of water/moisture and electricity. But thank you for your opinion. I exercise great care when diong what I do. It is not like I run my dryer or heater when the bathroom is being used. I also make sure there is no water on the floor or nearby. Not that the plug is anywhere near a water source or the floor. I asked a question about a product, not for people to tell me that I should not do something when they have no idea how I actually do it. I may not be an electrician but you don't actually need to be to know how it works.

mumsrule, Aug 4, 5:59am
The corner idea may work. Will look into it this weekend. Maybe in the top corner.

Makes you wonder what boring lives the ones who want to belittle us must lead.

fatdat, Aug 4, 5:34pm
It is quite a concern that so many of you think it is ok to have these power cords and electrical bits and pieces in their bathroom. You don't have to be elderly to suffer from a medical event, fall and it is all over rover. Keep those power cords out of the bathroom as that is why you haven't got lots of power points in your bathroom. We may see you again tomorrow, a bit colder but wiser.

mumsrule, Aug 4, 5:59pm
Do you wrap yourself in bubble wrap as soon as you get out of bed? Don't drive your car or handle sharp knives incase you have a medical event and fall over. Please be too scared to do anything just incase the unimaginable might happen. Actually why not just say in bed.

fatdat, Aug 4, 6:12pm
Just like we have rules when driving a motor vehicle, we have rules around electrical safety just to protect us all from the Karen's in society.

Bathroom Safety
Portable electrical appliances
Never bring mains-powered portable appliances such as hairdryers, heaters or radios into a bathroom. You could be severely injured or killed.
