What brand would you get? I've decided to buy myself one for xmas. Am thinking of getting a battery powered one, looking at them online most are 18V, assume this would be fine for a typical Pittosporum hedge. Are any of their blades able to be sharpened or replaced? Dont want to spend a fortune but dont want a cheap nasty one either. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. TIA

I got a Husqvarna. Great. Sorry that is the weed eater. The hedge trimmer is an Echo. I bought both from a specialist lawn mower, garden products shop.

I ended up buying an Ozito X Power exchange hedge trimmer - for 2 reasons. It has a 5 year warranty on the unit (3 year warranty on the battery) and it was a lot lighter than the others. I just went out and tried it and it is so nice to use, cuts really well, quick and very light, arms dont end up getting so sore when you have to hold it horizontally at shoulder height for the length of the hedge.

I bought a dewalt one as it matches my work batteries and i am very impresed with it. I was under the impression that battery ones were not up to the task but I was wrong.

I wouldnt want to cut anything substantial with it but its perfect for trimming my pittosporum hedge. I'll have to remember to do it little and often so it not such a big job

I got a Stilhl electric powered hedge trimmer. I found the battery one was too heavy. For the higher more substantial branches I got a battery powered Stihl pole saw thingy. It's heavy so I only use it in small bursts. It does everything I need.

It`s worth getting the blades sharpen regularly by a professional. Does not cost a lot. Has to be done with a grinder , not a file.
