I'm making some small brass handles. I can turn the pieces up on a lathe but need to join them. Someone has tried brazing them and melted the brass. I think I may put a thread on them and screw them together with Loctite.

Hmmm, the silphos might look a bit silvery also a fair bit of heat is required so could have the same problem - melting brass. Silphos works well on copper which has to be just about red hot for the silphos to flow. We used solder on various occasions also in electric motor repairs but have never seen brass coloured solder.

There are products you can use that are close to the right colour. But, brazing products need around 650-850deg to braze. Brass melts at 900-940deg. You need the right oxy/acet equipment and skills. Not the camp stove you said you would use last time.
At work I have any equipment needed. However the temperature is too close to the melting point of brass.

it's not that difficult. I've repaired brass window latches using a Mapp gas torch. Find the solder and give it a go if you have some equipment better than the BBQ gas ring.

eazyflo is a more brass colour .is softer that silfos .lower melt temp . is a know as a silver solder or hard solder. it around 30% silver But it is not chep 1.2mm rod maybe $20
Easy-Flo or ProSilver brazing rods. Those with higher silver content (e.g. ProSilver 45) have lower melting points but require a higher bank balance!
