A question about spray marker dyes.

witheze, Aug 5, 4:14pm
I have been using Been There and before that Been There Done That. over twenty years. however I recently bought "New Formula" Been There and first use my sprayer clogged up and as I pumped it trying to clear it the vacuum container exploded just missing my eye with a fragment. Bloody annoyed I bought a new Solo sprayer and another brand of dye called Red Marker Dye however the new sprayer has sat unused as I'm too afraid of a repeat performance and my new sprayer stuffed also. This is a a farm and I need to know what I've sprayed so the answer of don't use marker dye is not helpful. Any answers to a non detrimental dye would be appreciated.

I can't help, sorry, but maybe a thread in 'farming' would help?

there is a model that is better at handling dye and surfactants etc.
i thinks its the diaphragm model not the piston model.
i use marker dye a fair bit in both models without much problems.
tho some marker dyes have penetrant in them as well. maybe thats what gelled and caused the clog.

short answer, stop using the dye.

Dye is well known to destroy sprayers by drying up seals and rubber hoses making them fail.
Also dye is more dangerous than most sprays, get it on your skin, it stays there for days and transfers its self to your food when eating.

I have not used dye ever, and I never well, you need to learn to draw maps in your head, use land marks, work in lines or blocks.
you might find it hard at first but once you learn to work like that you will never use dye again.

An extra cost of the dye and cost of constant damage to gear plus the health risk. I know what I would be doing
