Sticky spots on carpet-help needed to identify .

bethel1, Oct 26, 3:55am
hiya, over the last year or so 2-3 spots have appeared on our carpet - in the most heavily used area of the house. I was blaming it on the other half dripping coffee and he was doing the same. We cleaned them up using the good old Bremworth carpet spray and then went away for a couple of months. Have just walked back in through the door and they are back-WTF-so NOT coffee spillage. The carpet is heavy duty wool and commercial underlay done by reputable firm over a decade ago, laying on a 1970's concrete pad, has anyone any suggestions as to what these small brown sticky spots might be?

I now have yet more spots coming. The only thing that I think they have in common is that they are on the heaviest wear part of the carpet, it is like a crossroads in the house everyone will cross this area regularly. Would welcome anyone's thoughts. cheers bethel1

That’s just normal growth. Try recoating every weekend and see how you feel.

What I believe has happened is that the sticky spots weren't cleaned away properly and the remaining residue has been slowly collecting dust. Try rubbing gently with microfibre cloth dampened in just water to see if that shifts any stain. If so, dampen just the spot a bit more with warm water, and keep dampening it and blotting until the white towel you're soaking it up with has no more stain on it. Don't add any more cleaning product!

in our experience, those spray on carpet cleaners do more harm than good. We had a mark on our carpet, sprayed it and vacuumed off. Brilliant, but soon it was back, and bigger. After another clean and a larger than ever stain appeared, we finally got a carpet cleaner guy in. He told us that what happens is that the spray on cleaner gets deeper into the pile than the vaccum can pull it out. Then the dust settles on it, and exacerbates the problem. We found afte he had dealt with it, there were no more stains. Plus, when he did it, there was a huge amount of froth came from the areas that we had sprayed.
It meeds to be done with a proper commercial machine, the one with two containers for the water, one with treated water and one that is for the dirty water that is sucked out. They spray the cleaner onto to carpet, then suck it out and it's left almost dry.
Pardon me for saying, but it looks as though your carpet could do with a clean anyway, unless the mark that I can see is a shadow.
We rcently had two rooms done, cost us $50.

I had my carpets cleaned a while back by a company. I only had to move the furniture, not remove it and it was put straight back in place, the only concession was that any metal which contacted the carpet had plastic put underneath till carpet dried. Was not the biggie I thought it would be.
