Carpet shampooer

I am thinking of buying one. Has anybody here had any positive or negative experiences with these? We have light coloured carpets and they get stained quite easily. It becomes expensive hiring carpet cleaners on an ongoing basis

A few years ago there was a Consumer report on carpet cleaning. The spray cans at the supermarket came out as the best value. The ones you hire probably do a better job but not such good value for money.

We have a bissell and we are pleased with it only used it a few times the only thing is it is another item to store.

I have a basic Bissell that I bought because of the state of the carpets in a flat I rented/were supposed to have been 'redone' before I moved in.

Very happy with it; also has done son and sister's carpets.

I will buy an upmarket model later this year as have had new carpet laid.

We owned Bissel when living in the US and have never there or here, had a problem with them.
