Carpet Shops in Kapiti: Recommendations (or not)

clicketyclick1, Apr 6, 12:59pm
Hi, we're looking for recommendations (or otherwise) for carpet retailers in Kapiti or Levin. We need the whole process - removal of old carpet, installation of new, and hopefully someone who will move furniture around.
Is it better to stick to a large national retailer in case a local firm goes bust making it difficult to follow up on problems with installation/carpet?
Plus a lead on someone near Otaki who can fix squeaky floorboards beforehand (and isn't booked up for months with more lucrative jobs) would be great. We just don't have the time or skill to do it ourselves.
Thanks.

I would get in contact with Denham Construction Ltd (Hamish Sweetman) in Otaki. He will be able to fix the floor boards. He will also know of the best carpeting firms around. He is a popular builder and so I am not making any guarantees as to availability.

Wouldn't you have to get access to the floor boards by removing the carpet or are the floor boards not in the area to be carpeted. It is really important to discuss layout of furniture with the carpet layer. If joins are needed they are best to be unobtrusive obviously and one carpet layer made assumptions about where an unobtrusive place might be which was where he thought a bed might go. it was not where we had ever had a bed and where we had not planned to have one in the future.

If the squeaky boards is a one off small job then perhaps check with Otaki Info office how to get in touch with the local Menz shed. They may have some contacts for a one of job like this.

A builder friend just did a job like this. Call Trevor 0211699480, I happen to know he has some free time this week. The carpet shop wiil draw a plan for the carpet layer to follow and where the joins are relates to the most economical use of carpet and having it all run the same way throughout the house so that you don't have it looking different colors. Any good carpet layer will produce work that does not show joins but it is a good idea to ask the retailer if the carpet joins well before purchasing (hubby ex carpet layer). Floor court in Levin are great to deal with. Carpet layers will move furniture at a price.

Not sure if they come to your area, but we used Carpet Mill. Absolutely brilliant carpet, good price and so easy to deal with here in Wellington. We know Kevin Milne and initially couldn't believe it when he started doing their ads. Now, after having used them, I can see why he agreed to do it. Have experience with Carpet Court - not very good at all.
Our Carpet Mill carpet still looks brand new - 1 year on. Our Carpet Court carpet was flat and sad after a year.
