Just wondering if creaking floor and stairs can be readily fixed and if anyone has an idea of the cost of having it done. Thanks

What are your floors made of, particle board, t&G and are they covered with carpet. Current house we have particle board. They started to squeak after 4 years, we just used a nail gun and firec in heaps more nails. Previous houe we had t&g covered with carpet. The bloody cat would run over the sqeaky spot 100 times or so starting at 2am, so we lifted the carpet and put in quite a few screws. Worked well.

Easier to nail the cat! How heavy was it?

I would screw the floor into the joists.

Theres special screws for this @ mitre10. Made in USA. They have 2 different pitches on them & pull the floor to the joist etc. Then you snap the screwhead off. they are costly but you get twice as many screws in the second pack.
Highly likely to be 2 issues . the original floor was nailed or there are noggins slightly higher than the floor joists,do not nail as they will not pull down.Lift the carpet & use 10 g 55 mm screws,if it still squeaks then you will have to lift the flooring.

Sounds like my old boy, nothing I did made him lose weight. Loved him to bits.
