OMG we have a rat in the wall between the bathroom and bedroom. How do we get this out without resorting to a shotgun?

It must be getting in or out somewhere. Let it get in and block it's exit.

Get the pest people in, never such a thing as one rat.

We are in an old villa and get them every year. Rat bait, traps and cutting back tree branches that allow them to jump to your house are the answer.

Rates and mice chewed through many packets of NO Rats & Mice bait. After one packet of Talon, they have all disappeared.

Be careful using poison if youre on tank water, the poison makes them thirsty and they die in your roof gutters and end up getting washed into your tank.

A good cat might help too.

lol that's why we end up with rats inside, the bastards bring them in as a present and either let them get away or suddenly lose interest when the rat is cornered and gets very aggressive!

Exactly the reason I don't have a cat door. It's bad enough watching one cat especially turn up at the sliding doors through the night with yet another mouse in his mouth. I am rodent phobic and the reason I will be getting insect screens put on some doors and windows before next summer---not for bugs but it's too hot in my new place to have the doors and windows shut---which I do now there isn't anyone to catch them once let go inside.

A guy made a cat door with a video camera that takes a picture of whatever is trying to enter the door and compares it with a normal picture of his cat. If it's a different cat, or some other animal, or his cat has something in its mouth, the computer won't open the door.

That is a good idea. A step up on just reading the collar or the microchip
