just needing some ideas please. got my ceiling repainted, then got a rangehood installed - of course its not level with the roof, there was a previous plate that we didnt think of removing (wish we did now) however either way it still would not have been level? just needs some ideas on what i can do to make this look better without stuffing if the new paint job if possible. we got the scotia removed to make it fit but maybe we should have just cut it - not sure, will include a photo.

Put a couple of small uneven sized kitchen ornaments on top of the rangehood if there is space. The taller one on the side with the bigger gap, and one slightly shorter one the other side should disguise any difference.

Graduated containers would work too, or a pot plant - artificial if necessary so it could be cleaned.

Are you sure the ceiling is level? You might be surprised.

Why cant you take out and re hang the plate the rangehood is fixed to? its inside the unit so its easy to take off the wall and has nothing to do with the paint work. I did this recently in my sons flat where we made the new rangehood look right rather than being exactly level.

Is it that the cover around the flue doesn't meet the ceiling evenly? The edge that touches first can be trimmed.

I'd be taking it up with the person who installed the range-hood?

its been installed properly but the ceiling is not level with the top of the flue

ill put some photos up cause its a little complicated, there is a metal plate on the ceiling which we should have removed and moved the silver piping back, but we didnt think about it till now
Ours has scotia running around it to neaten it up. You might find that covers it sufficiently so you can't see the bit at the front and there's just a a bit of metal plate sticking out. And since it's the same colour as the ceiling, it might not be as obvious then.

At this stage, glue, (contact glue) some scotia to it ?

its so annoying when you have a vision and it doesnt look how you intended it to. yes i was thinking of making a frame around it, but just thought someone might give me several ideas. even if i trim it, its still going to show a little bit of the hole in front so just need to think what is the best to do. if only i could turn back the clock

Easily fixed. Undo everything at the top, the stack slides diwn into itself. Remove the plate affixed to the ceiling. Do a gib repair. Slide everything back up. Is that an old copper or chippie chimney hole?

i would ashume it is, i dont know why i didnt just remove it in the first place. grrr

I hate to be argumentative but in no way would I describe it as having been 'installed properly'.
(#16 is on to it - good advice well worth taking).

Now that Ive seen your photos, personally I would undo the screws holding the top of the rangehood and take the time to remove all that stuff off your ceiling, re gib, paint the gap and do the job properly, otherwise it would drive me nuts every time I looked at it.

What a bloody awful mess - that certainly wasn't installed by a tradesman - if you paid for that job then you've been seriously ripped off.
The scotia should have been matched and continued right around the three faces of the hood and properly mitred into the existing scotia.

yes, its doing just that, annoying the shit out of me, and yes i wont be recommending the person, he did give me cash back after i said something - the thing is he wasnt a professional installer, just an electrician but yeah wish i had just got a professional

:( was an electrician but not a professional rangehood installer - that was my mistake, i should have paid and got it done properly
