It looks like a fuchsia, but I can't identify the exact cultivar. I'll ask the household expert shortly.

I might have figured it out myself - just looked thru one of my giant plant books i havnt opened for years judging from the amount of dust on it. Do you think its a Cestrum elegans?
Yes I thought so but think unfortunately it is Dibble's latest find which is a cestrum and an environmental weed in Australia. I would find out a bit more about its 'naughtiness' habits before planting it out here. It is a native of Mexico and may be self limiting in our climate though.

Wonder if it'll become a weed here? Lady who brought it in for us to ID sells plants at markets and got this out of someones garden and is propagating it.

We have this at work and it is spreading slowly but then it is in a wild area and gets little control, but I'm sure I saw it in a book of NZ weeds a few weeks ago. Still she should maybe check with her local council. Don't wanna be selling bad plants.
