Help with Plant Identity Please?

ruie, Feb 3, 6:28pm
Can anyone identify this cutting taken from an established half-metre tall shrub? It has a very robust, rubbery type leaf similar to the texture of a camellia leaf. Thanks for your help.

Possibly Ficus elastica, India rubber tree ?
The leaves can be variable in appearence.

One of the ratas maybe?

maybe a seedling camelia?

You might have to wait til it flowers. It looks like all of those things. very fine veining in the leaves, though.

Could it be one of the raphiolepis family?

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I'll pop into a couple of nurseries today to see if they can identify the plant or maybe hopefully even stock it.

I've called into 3 different nurseries & had no luck. None of the staff could identify this plant . one guess was that it might be in the Pohutukawa family but no-one was certain. I've taken a pic of the shrub the cutting was taken from, hoping this might help? Thanks.

That is a very nice plant, interesting, one I have never seen. I would be interested to know what it is . Try posting to Piquant, a very knowledgeable lady, she may know.

Or post a much closer up pic of the last photo. It may help. Also you may care to remove that nasty climbing moth vine in your plant. It is not a goodie.

Hi maclad . yes, I did yank some of that nasty vine out but it's actually not my plant! It's outside a shop I went into the other day!

well done you

Hi maclad . I contacted Piquant who was a bit flummoxed by this one . she was of the opinion it was one of the myrtaceae family & suggested I contact the Botanic Gardens. They identified it as Metrosideros Nervulosa, a plant in the Myrtaceae family, from Lord Howe Island.
Now it proving difficult to source the plant . Piquant has given me a couple of contacts to follow up so fingers crossed!

Well done both of you, good luck sourcing it.

I have one similar in my garden - a hawthorn will have white flowers and dark purple berries to follow - look it up on google anyway
