Probably as peas like cooler weather, they succumb to mildew when put in late and do not do well.

Not at all, we were still picking peas in May this year.

Yes. But put some in in March or April. You can grow them in autumn, you're not too far south.

I put regular peas and sugar peas in about two months ago. They are lovely and clean and producing extremely well. Sugar peas 7' tall, bit hard for 5' nothing to pick. I was lucky with timing but would not have sown any later. Perhaps a few months earlier and had successive crops as this will be my only crop this year.
