I think it's a babaco too. Haven't eaten one for quite a while as we don't see them often but I liked them grilled in the Summer with BBQ food. I thought they were yellowy white inside and slightly "citrusy". Like that they are star shaped when sliced. I'd grow them if i could find seeds or plants. They were grown here in NZ (Horowhenua area)
We had those growing in the Ruapuke area, very nice to eat, op maybe your was not quite ripe.

We used to slice babaco and then sprinkle it with sugar and eat when sugar had dissolved a little.

I wonder if this fruit has weight reducing properties because I weighed 83.6 kg on Monday and are now 80.2kg. I've been eating two large slices of babaco every day. Nothing much else has changed in my routine other than 30 minutes playing squash last evening.

yeah it's a babaco. I think a member of the papaya/pawpaw family. It's probably a viable fruit to grow in NZ with increased temperatures!

As I said in the other thread about this fruit, Mum had friends in the early 80s growing new tropical fruits and these were one. They are a bit of an acquired taste but very pleasant for those who don't have a very sweet tooth and nice in fresh fruit salad with pineapple and passionfriut etc, if I remember correctly. I haven't had one in decades though.
You do see them for sale at times, I guess Island import fruits are cheaper in the long run than economically small local tropical fruit production.

I used to have a mountain pawpaw tree, the fruit are similar to but smaller than a babaco. I find the mountain pawpaw very delicious and it has a delicious smell. In fact, I think I will plant another, they fruit heavily. http://www.edible.co.nz/fruits.php?fruitid=38_Mountain%20Paw%20Paw

I love babaco but haven't had any in years. Hard to get good quality ones in shops.
