Many years ago we sold this as 'babaco'. You might have more luck searching under that name?

I used to work in a fruit shop and carambola was small and called star fruit, babaco was big with a quite different texture and shape

Both Carambola and babaco can be called star fruit but they're very different fruit. I have a babaco growing but have never seen Carambola plants in 30 years of buying and selling plants. I doubt they would growoutdoors in NZ anyway and they're probably too big a tree to want have in a greenhouse. They're delicious though fresh and don't store or travel well so I can understand you wanting them
