Perspex roofing for a greenhouse?

jan2242, Mar 28, 5:10am
Seems all the greenhouses are either too expensive or made in China so thinking of making one myself. I have an area at teh end of my deck which would be perfect so wondering if the clear, or tinted perspex roofing would work? Be grateful for any advice as never had a greenhouse/glasshouse.

Yes, the clear would work, the plants dont care whether it is plastic or glass.
Get polycarbonate, it is more expensive but doesnt deteriorate in sunlight as quickly as other plastics.

Doing similar with an old shed. Ripping some iron off and replacing it with Polycarbonate. Got it delivered today by these guys.

Their polycarb is about the same price as inferior PVC sheeting from Bunnings.

They claim it’s made the same yet has a much inferior warranty.

You going to rely on a ~20 year warranty?
Chances of the Company still being there in 20 years, especially if they are selling a dodgy product.

Anyway, at that price, if I have to re-do it in 10 years, I'm still ahead.

In 20 years I shouldn't be messing around up on a roof anyway :D

Awesome, many thanks. I reckon it should be fun to try. Would I just nail the roofing on to it?

Make sure that any timber underneath is painted white as per the instructions, otherwise it goes black and melts the plastic.
I think you would need to drill and screw the roofing.
