If not Then i have an alien growing out the top of it ! .It is a about 3 metres high (,the plant itself) .Its about 18years old and now has this growth coming out of the centre of it that is past the guttering on the house and still growing . It appears to have buds coming on the feathery leaf stalk but none are open yet The stalk from the centre is 1. 5 metres long WEIRD ?

Yes this is the life cycle of the agave. It will grow much taller, up to 10 metres, around a foot a day, it will then flower, drop lots of seedlings then die

The whole plant will die or just the flower part . ? It is definitely a talking point being so tall Thought our recent winds might have broken it .I cant reach the top of it even standing on second highest ladder rung !

the whole plant dies, though you will have lots of seedlings to replant

i think you may find that the main plant which flowered will die. However there will be many more smaller plants underneath this one and they should continue to survive and grow. As for seedlings, never seen any but the roots will sucker and send up new plants some distance from the parent plant.

they are sometimes called the centuary plant, although it does not take quite that long for them to flower over here at least?
