I took a few cuttings from a friend's tree, which she tells me is a fuchsia. However, I don't think it is. It does have pink flowers but they are not fuchsia-like. It's a small-ish (2m or so) evergreen that seems relatively vigorous and ok in the shade. Does anyone know? TIA.

Look like Fuschia leaves, and they do very well in shade. There are so many varieties, many shapes of flower. Any pics of flowers, or have they finished?

thanks all - sorry I didn't get a pic of the flower! I'll google those suggestions. Yes her trees are at least 2m tall which made me think fuchsia not quite right but as you say schnauzer11, there are many different types. I'll have a wee look now on Google.
Balsam/impatiens are often called "water fuscia", and this could be where your friend has been mistaken.
Be aware, if it is impatiens glandulifera, that it's now considered a noxious weed in NZ - hence the link I've given, for more info.
