Bathroom renovations

bruceakld, Nov 12, 8:09pm
We are needing to upgrade the bathrooms in our house.
There is a family bathroom with shower, bath, sink and toilet.
an ensuite with shower, sink, toilet.
a guest toilet with sink.
The rooms all need to be stripped back to the walls and everything replaced. Also re-tile the floors and maybe showers and bath surround and paint the walls
We'd like them to be maybe mid-range nice but not top of the line or designer fit-out. We've never done anything like this before. What sort of budget should we be looking for?
Will need to buy the bathroomware, get a tiler, a plumber, and an electrician.
What sort of budget should we be looking for?
Also any suggestions of companies that have done a good job on this sort of work.
We're in West Auckland.

Consider getting a quote from one of the bathroom renovation companies.

Best advice they will manage the complete job, rather than trying to manage it yourself, esp if your experience is limited

Any builder will also project manage. Going to a big specialist company often means high overheads and salaried workers. I have always found that getting a builder who is doing the work himself is far better as he has some skin in the game and you can always talk to the boss because he is onsite. I would look at a site like builders crack for a starter and ask to see some references or see if he will let you contact some of his past customers.

Exciting! Our builder will be doing ours eventually and he subcontracts out to the plumber, tiler, sparky and so on. He will give us a quote. Even just a run of the mill bathroom will cost you, so whatever your budget, allow an extra 10% for those unforeseen things or if you change your mind about something.

I agree that it would probably work out less expensive having a builder manage the project. The original post just wanted to establish a budget.
