Do i need to drill pilot holes first before screwing in the base?
House is a standard new home so ceiling is jib or whatever.
Thanks!

Depend on what the battens behind the gib are Timber or Metal ?

Hole for a gib plug to suit the ceiling material/cavity, then screw in. If you just butty in the screw, it’ll get more and more loose till the unit drops on your head.

Gib plugs are old-school now, there is a type of screw called a 'wall dog' that is designed to hold in gib. You'll find them at most electrical wholesalers, they're often used to mount aircon units.
