Heatpump outdoor unit q

Should these leak water when the heatpump is running? Noticed tonight water running from the outdoor unit which had been running for a while. Just wondering if this can be normal or whether it could be a problem with it?

It would be normal. Your indoor unit has a drain which will run in the same channel fitted to the wall behind the outdoor unit. If you have a look behind the outdoor unit, you will see a couple of insulated pipes and a drain pipe. Its the same effect as your car leaving a pool of water underneath with the air conditioning being used.

Edited to add: your heatpump works as a dehumidifier also, so it is moisture drawn from the house interior.

Yes it's normal when using on heating.

and cooling :)

No. When it's on cooling, the water comes out the drain pipe from the indoor unit.

When it's on heating, the water comes out of the bottom of the outdoor unit, NOT the drain hose.

I have learnt something new today :)

Heatpumps only dehumidify when used for aircon. Unless your unit cycles between aircon and heating.

Thanks people, appreciate confirmation it's normal, our last one was not on concrete so we never saw water if it was ever present.

It is what happens after it has been defrosting
