Now I know why all house is painted same colour

The entire inside of my house I bought last year is painted cream, skirting boards, walls, and ceilings. I just re painted the bathroom and have done the ceilings white, sertone walls two toned blue/green (looks really good) and the floor painted brown (till I can afford lino). I have just fitted new skirting boards and am in the process of painting them white. what a pain in the a#se it is to cut in the skirting boards. Everything else has been really easy and enjoyable but this - yuck. Next time I will pre paint them and just do any touch ups as necessary. But when I am finally finished I will be so pleased and proud of the job I have done - looks so much better, and didn't cost much compared to replacing the walls which I originally wanted to do.

Ach I think that's just a lazy trend painting everything the same colour. White skirting boards look fabulous and clean and break up all that monotony. It'll be worth the extra time.

Painters masking tape is your friend

I agree grrovie, it is lazy painting. But in saying that my skirting boards are going to be the same colour as my walls lol but scotia and ceiling white. Door trims and windows also white. My SIL called me old fashioned having white but I love it and looking at the booklets in Resenes, white is the trend now anyway. (so who is the 'old fashioned' one lol)

I think I painted my bathroom all back to front, was just going to do the ceilings and arcatraves as they had mould. Then decided to paint the floor, rather than wait to get lino, then decided I couldn't stand the cream and yellow seratone any longer. Then when I got everything done except the skirting boards I decided the brown floors looked really bad. But once the white skirting boards were put in it looked pretty good. Made a big difference. Just have one more gloss coat to do on skirting boars and windows and I have to paint the door and frame and i'm done, just as well as have less than a week left of my holidays.

I noticed in my sister-in-law's house that the painters had painted the top horizontal bit of the skirting in the wall colour. Might have been lazy on their part (and now mine!) but I do find painting to an external corner much much easier than an internal corner! Even went back and did the hall like that because it looks so much neater!

+ 1. inexpensive, fairly quick to fit along where you want the paint line to be, complete your coats of paint and remove the tape fairly quickly after finishing. done :-)

I'm going to brag lol, I painted the walls, skirting boards, scotia and ceiling in our previous house after the floors were polished without masking tape. We had no choice to polish the floors first as the floor sander guy was booked up and we had to take him when he was available. Typical lol, we weren't ready for him.
