can anyone tell me why some of my beautiful irises have most unusual flowers with single thick petals.The flowers are insignificant. They used to be beautiful new cultivars with ruffled falls. Is this a genetic fault where the flower is reverting back to its plain and ancient parent. you help would be appreciated.I

I had problems a few years back; decided some round up spray had drifted on them , did not kill them just deformed

thanks issymae. That's very interesting. I have used roundup, although I didn't think there had been any drift onto the irises, That could well be what has happened.

Aggree with issymae. Diffinately caused by Round up, Called roundupii by growers as has happened when a neighbour was spraying in paddock next to my nursery. This will come right after 12 months provided no more use of round up near by. Roundup can sit for a bit and then get picked up by a slight breeze to where thery are. I never use it in or around any plantings for this reason.
