Can I plant grass in winter?

I need to replant the berm in front of my house and missed the Autumn window. Can I plant in Winter? If not then when would be the best time to plant now? Thanks.

Look on the seed pack. There are usually planting recommendations. Ryegrass will germinate at 5-10C, so Auckland winter may not be a problem so long as you don't get any frost. Try a small patch. If nothing comes up in 7-10 days, then you probably need to wait for spring.

Autumn is best time. to get a good strike before the cold weather sets in. otherwise spring but then you run the risk of new tender grass getting burnt. keep well watered and tended

auckland winter is going to be to cold. while its been fairly mild it doesn't take much to kill it off and it will take a long time to get up to strength.

spring is the next, but watch the temp and later it will need watering untill its high enough to withstand summer. programmable timer on the tap makes the watering easy.

Auckland has been white with frost about 3-4 days in a row last week. Given that it seems to be a colder than usual winter I'd wait a few weeks myself.

The council has just planted grass on a sports field and it's all green after a week.

Hurry it along with a bit of nitrogen.

Don't forget that we are not even half way through winter.

I am going to wait until spring til I start sewing more grass seed.

frost won't hurt any type of rye grass, but it will be extremely slow to get established if you sow it now. If you sow it in the spring time you will probably get a lot of weeds coming up with the new grass. I'd just give it a crack now.
