To clarify the post I made above.

That part of the can or worms, wasn't made clear as I did contact the EECA regarding the incorrect install and the damage.

I originally contacted and contracted the DIY company through their promotion, for theinsulation install.
There were 3 companies involved.
1) the DIY comapny
2) the company the DIY company sub contracted to
3) the third company sub contracted by the 2nd company
4) the sub contractors used by the third company.

What I found out subsequently was, the DIY company sub contracted the job out to another company,who in their words "Through an administration error"sub contracted the job out to the third company, (the one who did the incorrect install and the damage) and the third company who did the job, used sub contractors themselves to do the job.

Companies 1 and 2 are with theEECA .
But it was never made clear if the third company and its subcontractors were with the EECA.

many thanks to this thread, I've discovered noiseline gib board. I am looking at sound insulating a bedroom next to the kitchen/living area. The ceiling gib has to come off anyway plus one wall, and am looking at doing two interior walls with insulation as well. I think I will use those grey batts that are meant to be for sound insulation too. Any comments gratefully received.

Um, thought that I was on the earthquake thread, but I guess all of you are pretty knowledgeable, thanks

Noiseline is good but you have to follow the correct installation procedure, more info here :

I think rsr72 is correct about government subsidies to install insulation going to firms that can afford to subcontract to another firm that can afford to subcontract.etc. all making a cut for doing zilch.
just my thought too;
