I grew a second one off an untrimmed stake I put in the garden in a tyre tower for the veges. It started to shoot the second year from the leaf area (6' high) so I planted it out somewhere less inappropriate. If you have some growing nearby and can't get a plant easily, maybe ask for a pole and try shoving some lengths in the ground, cover deeply and see what happens.

Be careful, both the black and the giant are running bamboo and so you need to be able to contain it somehow or you could well be sorry

We have a stand of it, near Waihi. Contact us if in area, could get shoots that come up in the paddock - cows eat them. We love it.

Our giant doesn't run at all. It clumps and the clump hasn't even doubled in size in nearly 30 years.
