We have found a plantation of the thick Bamboo we can cut into but how to cut it down is the question.
we have used a hacksaw in the past but that was only on skinny stuff. anybody got any ideas please !

chainsaw is a bit messy but works. A grinder (cordless best for portability) with diamond blade would give a tidy cut. A sharp handsaw be OK too.

hmmm could do the grinder with a long extension cord . I suggested a chainsaw but got laughed at.lol I reckon we could always trim any raggedy bits off afterwards.lol

Go the mighty chainsaw Pam. If it's the giant bamboo like we have, it takes a bit of effort after the first couple. I use a small pruning saw mostly (if the kid won't do it for me) because of the coarse teeth and tight growth of the bamboo but it's still hard work. A bow saw would work ok if what you want to cut is open enough to get it in there.

If you cut when mature, (when it changes colour) and in winter it should last a long time.
