Tiny worms in my Potatoes.

I am just digging a new row of potatoes and am finding the big potatoes have got lots of tiny holes in them. One even had a tiny worm. Can anyone tell me what to do to stop this infestation in future. I know I will just have to wear it this year.

We had ants and wire worm last year. I used lawn prills. Haven't seen any holes so far - apart from the ones I made with a fork.

I get that when the soil conditions aren't right and the potato rots in the ground. Too wet, or soil too alkaline?

Did you have them growing in a vege garden mix you purchased? My daughter bought some last year to top up her raised beds - I think it was a combination of potting mix & mushroom mix. I think that's where the worms come from. This year has been fine though.

No they are just in soil that has been here all the time. I rotate my garden each year so potatoes go in one end one year and the other end the next year. This year is particularly hot and dry. We always put super phosphate in the trench when we plant the potatoes. Do you use lawn prills at planting time?
