Growing salad in pots in hot sun = small plants ?

Im growing stuff like silver beet and kale in pots in the all day sun but when planted outside in the sun the growing slowed down a lot. They get plenty of water in the afternoons .It there a good food I can put in there?

I should think they will need shade no matter how much good food you give them, can you put something near to give them some shade at least during the middle of the day?

Make sure the root part in the pot is shaded. The leaves can be in full sun, but if the pot part is in the sun, the roots get too hot. You'll need to water twice a day on warmer days as well.
I found it impossible to grow veges in pots because I'm at work half the day, and can only water in the evenings.

Yes keep them shaded for a day or two after transplant. I use a piece of woven windbreak material but anything that blocks the hard sun will do
