Trees are at least 20 years old and have never been pruned correctly so heaps of straggly trunks and gazillions of branches.

We have a hedge of them that we'd like to take out.So what sort of root system do they have please (like is it going to be a big job).Don't want to just cut them off at ground level as they're in what is probably the sunniest spot in the garden.

i hope you keep them alive and replant them or donate them to someone else for replanting.

if the streets were lined with fruit and nut trees, there would be no world hunger

If they're old and you don't want to regenerate them by pruning, then your best bet would be to hire a bobcat and driver and take them out that way. Mature feijoas have deep roots, which is why they're easy to prune and reshape without stressing the plant(done in autumn once they've fruited).

Doubt they'd survive sorry, but you're most welcome to take them off our hands :)

I believe feijoa roots are near the surface, so just tie a rope to the towbar and gun the motor!

LOL can't get a car near the area unfortunately, gate's only 3 ft wide and not in a direct line with the trees.

So interesting you say shallow rooted but another earlier said deep rooted !
