Oak stain

I have a white oak wood cabinet that is showing it's age a bit. What is the best way to give it a new lease of life. If I sand it back what type of stain. varnish or polyurethane would be best. I don't want it too dark. thanks.

You don't have to stain it at all if you want it pale. Sand it back, try a tiny bit of varnish on the bottom, that will tell you what colour you will get. varnish makes it look darker anyway.
If you are not happy, then look at stains. probably pale oak. or similar.

Water based polyurethane if you want the colour as natural looking as possible.

Thanks for your replies. I had a bit of polyurethane in the garage and painted a little bit on the inside. Pretty well matched the outside. Just going to buy a new tin and give it a sand and give it 2 coats and it (hopefully) should be fine.
