My toilet keeps dripping water into the pan, so it's constantly got the water dripping into the cistern It has a plunger-like release in the cistern, so I'm guessing maybe it's not sealing properly? Earlier today when it was flushed I wondered why I could hear water still going quite forcefully about 20 mins later and went and had a look, and the cistern was just about empty. The water was trying to fill it. I pushed down on the plunger bit and it then started filling
Is this something I can fix, or would I get the landlord in? Thanks

I fixed my one with a washer in the middle bit of th cistern, the central bit that lifts up in my case.
I'm no expert, and it was easy enough. Though if you have landlord and unsure, contact them.

Yeah just give your landlord a call and let him/her know the problem. Worst case if you try fix it on your own and something goes wrong it could be more trouble than its worth.

ive had a look at it and it does seem straight forward. Might go to bunnings tomorrow and see if i can get a new seal

Jiggle the lever, may fix it. Maybe take lid off and jiggle it again.

A replacement small washer for the ball valve should do the trick, Got my last one from Mitre10.

It won't be the ball valve if it is running into the bowl, more likely the washer at the bottom of the plunger release which will never fill the cistern.

Yep that sounds like the problem.

Take the washer off the central piece and take it with you to the shop. Last time I did this I found there is more than one size. Replacement should do the trick. Until then you could try flipping the washer over, works sometimes and ensure there is not dirt or grit affecting it sealing ability.

I pulled out the lever in the cistern this morning and figured the problem was the seal, as it was warped a bit
Took it to bunnings and get a replacement, changed it over and voila! no more wasted running water Thanks for the advice people :)
