Do you have to seal grout for a fireplace hearth?

I'm getting mixed results looking online. I'm tempted not to bother with sealing the grout.

No, you don't have too, but it is recommended.

You will eventually regret it if you don't seal. A pro once told me, seal, seal and seal. Keeps things looking fresh and clean.

I never sealed mine, but it was a charcoal colour so no stains will show

Is this an open fire or woodburner. My woodburner sits on a hearth I built 25yrs ago. The grey plaster grout has never changed colour. Never stained. Slate hearth on a wooden floor.
