Keyhole garden sounds awesome

Just saw this on a facebook page (grow food, not lawns) and it looks like a freaking awesome idea.

"A keyhole garden has a compost basket built into its center, when the basket is watered, nutrients from the compost leach into the surrounding soil."

Don't forget to check out the 'Grow food not lawns' page, they're constantly posting great ideas multiple times a day, one of the best gardening pages on facebook.

Mmm.but what happens to the build up of the soil in it! You end up with a lush pile in the middle! How do you spread it out.

you just add food scraps to the pile which decompose over time, the nutrients leak into the surrounding soil.

I'm sceptical.I prefer to let my compost compost down properly, and then spread it over the soil, or even better, dig it in.I think you'll be losing a lot of nutrients that the plants can't get to this way.Seems a bit lazy to me.
