Mulching question

I have a big pile of mulched gum branches and leaves.I've been told that I cant use it 'fresh' as a lot of plants wont like it. How long do I need to leave it before I can use it to mulch around plants, and are there any plants I should avoid using it on!

What are you intending to mulch with this material!
It will be very slow to break down and quite acid.

Intending to mulch big garden beds - lots of different plants including rhodos, azaleas, pittosporum, roses etc etc

Should be fine for that .I suggest laying cardboard or lots of news paper under it to provide a buffer for the soil organisms.

Rhodos and azaleas like acid , but roses don't You might need to be a bit careful about sharing it out.
