I've never tried to do it myself but that's more because a) I have respiratory problems I don't want to aggravate and b) it seems like a pig of a job. I always assumed you could do it yourself.I just choose not to.

I used to do ours when we had a log burner, tip I learnt was to do it on a sunny day and use a mirror to reflect sunlight down the flue to see that you've got it clean - better than a torch.
