I wash going to wash in warm soapy water and rinse, but thought it may leave them stiff when dry. Thank you.

I used to do mine the way you propose, then scuff with a little brush with some very fine brass bristles that was made for the job.

Use a suede brush on them first to get most of the dirt off. A proper suede brush will get heaps of mud etc off. I would stuff them tight with newspaper or put shoe trees in them and them dampen with water, no soap, and wash off rather than wholesale putting them in soapy water.

A pencil eraser is great for cleaning and restoring suede.

I used to wear mine to the beach and walk in the dry sand,they came out looking great,
